Republic History Video

My grandfather lives in a remote corner of northeastern Washington in a town called Republic. He remembers an unbelievably large amount about the history of the town and recently, the town council of Republic asked Grandpa [Dick Slagle] and a few other men of his age to walk down the main street and tell stories about the town. This video is the end production of that.

I apologize for the fact that this video will probably load very slowly, as this "esnips" place fails at life.
[In fact, it may not work at all. D:]

Correction: This video seems to have stopped working entirely. So as not to subject you to the incessant jump-roping of the loading screen, I took it down. If you ever get the chance to go to Republic, though, you should commandeer a copy of this video. They're around.

Day of Silence

I just thought I'd take a moment to inform everyone about an event that I'm participating in on Friday. It's called Day of Silence, and it's basically where people choose to be silent, either for the whole day or just during school, in honor of GLBTQ [gay, lesbian, bisexual, transexual, questioning] people who have been harassed or abused because of who they are. I think that this is a great way to raise awareness and also pay respect to the GLBTQ people who get harassed for their sexuality. This year, it's also in memory of Lawrence King, a California 8th grader who was gunned down at his school for his sexuality. To find out more about Day of Silence, their website is http://www.dayofsilence.org/index.html
I'll try to post about how the day went if I get a chance.
You should consider participating in this event. I think it's a really good cause, and raising awareness about all the abuse that GLBTQ people have to put up with is definitely worth the effort.

We now interrupt this broadcast for an important bulletin...

Wow. I haven't been on here in a while. My excuse: my website is down. : (
I just wanted to put up this delegate tracker that I found on the News Hour website.
I'm really hoping that Obama will come out on top, since I think that he can really change our country for the better. I saw him speak, and it was amazing. So, without further ado:

photos

while i'm feeling completely traitorous and cheating on my website and my wordpress blog, I figured maybe i could post some of the pictures i took with our newfangled digital camera that dad got our family for christmas.

exhibit a: our new doggie, Cooper. he's a red heeler that showed up at my grandpa's around Halloweenish. he was going to give him to the local no-kill animal shelter, but my parents decided it would be nice to have a bit of overlap, since hershey [my other dog, who is getting kinda ancient] is probably not much longer for this world... *sniffle* i love cooper to death.

exhibit b: some stuffed animals that i got for christmas, and in the background, the $25 [wow!] gift card for Barnes & Noble that my friend [or more... *mysterious look*] Austin gave me. more books... =D [if you're wondering what i'm talking about, it's that unimpressive gray thing sticking out of the green box] oo oo, and also i must mention the blue thing in front of the doggy [behind the branch], which is the awesome squshy pillow that my friend Kelsie gave me
[as you can tell, my friends spoil me rotten]. also, not in the picture are the oil pastels and sketch pencils that Bobby gave me. see? i didn't leave anyone out. the "cat naps" calendar is from my grandpa. it's an annual tradition. he sends me a calendar every year. the owl was a stocking present. i actually left out cookies for santa this year [and a posty that said "cookies for santa" - so as to prevent confusion]

in case you're wondering why i'm cheating on my wordpress blog, it's because it wouldn't let me post my pictures without whigging out and making them *freaking huge*. in short, i got pissed and remembered my blogger blog [at 12:00 at night]. also, i <3>wonderful rates - not - 18c a min to talk and 5c a text]. virgin mobile aint cheap. also, i spent some of my christmas moneys on a graphic novel. for my first, it was a good one [i think, anyways, and no one else i know has read it, so i haven't had anyone to shoot me down yet]. it's called "Blood Alone" by Masayuki Takano, and is about a girl who is a vampire and lives with a detective/writer guy with eyes that see truth. that's a really bad summary, but you should read it. good pictures, too. I also chipped in on Superman Returns soundtrack. Mom and I saw it in Imax on my birthday [it was kinda underwhelming because it was in 3D, which looks really bad with fast action], but the movie itself is *awesome*!!!!!!! I never thought i'd be head over heels for a movie centered around a man who spends a fair part of the movie running around in blue tights and red underwear [on the outside of the tights, no less]. then again, i never did get the conventions of superhero fashions, anyways. great movie. great music, too. written by the same guy who wrote the music for the 2nd X-Men movie. that's a good movie, too. and by the same director [Bryan Singer], no less. i never was much one for comic books, but the movies of them have been kicking ass lately [pardon my language]. by "the movies of them lately" i mean Superman Returns and Batman Begins [do i sense a pattern here...?] all the franchises are getting resuscitations. and the CPR techs appear to be doing a good job on some of them [don't get me started on X-Men 3, though - i could complain for hours]. uhoh. is 12:49. maybe, just maybe, i should go to bed. night.

trampoline to bigger better things

as it is with so many abandoned blogs on Blogger these days, I have gotten myself a web domain and have discovered the wonders of *in hushed tones so as not to offend the great Blogger King Person* Wordpress. which actually i've posted on a grand toatal of once, but there are some darn cool things about it... such as that you can set up different subpages under your blog, or that... ummmm... dunno. Bobby gave me an intro to it when he set it up, but I can't remember most of it. *sigh* might've been better off to stick with Blogger. I hardly ever have time to post these days anyway, and I don't have to pay for this. I have to frown at my website anyways [dreamelf.net, if you were wondering], because it keeps giving me a 403 every time i try to get to the login. and that's the only way that i can manage it at all, thanks to Dad, who won't let me use Frontpage just because Bobby doesn't have an official written license thingy. is pathetic. his dad runs a tech support business for pete's sake. that should be satisfactorily legitimate... but noooooo. not for dad. *thunderous frown* ah, well. i really should pay bobby back for the website, especially since he spent all that effort to set it up when he already has three of his own to manage, and then I don't even use it [or at the moment, can't use it]. i'm such a cheapscate. mooching off everyone else's good will. i should be ashamed of myself. and i am. tragic, really. anyways, this is supposed to be a "goodbye, and see you at dreamelf.net/frogpond", but it ended up being a rant session. typical me.

infinite happiness

I'm in a state of euphoria right now because I just discovered that Firefox is working again. I'm working on an html document that may turn out kinda like Bobby's Greylite - a notebook/journal/general recepticle for information that probably wouldn't get published, though I am planning to start a website as soon as Bobby has time to buy the domain for me. More news soon... I hope.

Anchoring the Telephone (Minty Fresh)

I've made a few observations about life since I last posted, so I thought I'd share them:
-talking on the phone at my house is kinda like anchoring a news show - you get your lines fed to you on little pieces of paper.
-working in a dentist or orthodontist office has a big professional advantage - minty fresh breath is only one ready-to-use toothbrush away
I'm writing this in Google Docs, since the schoool proxy blocks blogger and I forgot my flash drive. *frown*
